He was a student of Jansy, Schwaigra, Slavíček, F. Engelmüller, Županský and Kavan, with whom he worked for a long time. He organized study tours around the Balkans, Italy and France.
He painted paintings with motifs from the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, from Hlinsko, Kameniček, Tatár and mainly from Wallachia. His postcards from Old Prague, made up in earlier years, are also known.
He also painted forest interiors and figural motifs. He participated in exhibitions of the Art Society in Prague.
